Enclave Broadleaf by AJ Fernandez Toro

Enclave Broadleaf Toro is the first cigar in A.J. Fernandez's own portfolio to use a
Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Following the hugely successful original Enclave,
Enclave Broadleaf was born out of positive inspiration after its predecessor earned a
spot on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 list in 2016. Handmade at Tabacalera A.J.
Fernandez Cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua, Enclave Broadleaf is rolled using a top-tier
blend of Nicaraguan filler and binder tobacco from Esteli, Jalapa, and Pueblo
Nuevo. The dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper is what sets it apart from
the original release, making for a rich, smooth, and utterly delicious smoking
experience. You don't have to take our word for it, however, as it wasn't long
after its release that Enclave Broadleaf received a tremendous 92 rating in Cigar
Aficionado. Maduro fans, this one's for you!
Dark, veiny, and shimmering with natural oils, Enclave Broadleaf is clothed with classic
double bands and rolled with expert precision. A generous draw offers a
more-than-ample amount of dense, white smoke, greeting the palate with a dazzling
array of earthy sweetness mixed with Nicaraguan pepper. Rich cedar ties
together beautifully with sweet and savory notes as the strength of Enclave
Broadleaf strengthens. Slight cocoa can be detected through the nose alongside the
heavy dose of spice on the retrohale. A.J. Fernandez has done a beautiful job
with his first Connecticut Broadleaf cigar, appealing not only to maduro
fanatics, but those looking for a full-bodied Nicaraguan experience. Enclave Broadleaf
is available in three standard sizes, each showcasing the blend just a
bit differently. At 6 1/2" x 54, the massive toro size smokes long and cool,
showcasing the intricate blending involved in the decadent filler blend.
While Enclave Broadleaf is certainly a solid choice for just about any fan of maduro cigars,
it really is, like many A.J. Fernandez blends, geared towards more
experienced connoisseurs. Enclave Broadleaf is indubitably a full-flavored, full-bodied
cigar, so much so that prior to its release it was rumored to sport the
powerhouse Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper, known for its overwhelming strength and
nicotine potency. This myth was, of course, debunked by the good folks at A.J.
Fernandez Cigars, but it goes to show you just how much power this blend
packs. Such a robust blend makes for an ideal pair to stout beer, black coffee,
and tawny port, and it is worthwhile to note that Enclave Broadleaf is
best enjoyed after a heavy meal. If you loved the original Enclave, New World,
or San Lotano Oval Maduro, you will definitely want to give Enclave
Broadleaf a shot. Whether you love Nicaraguan cigars in general, you are a maduro
freak, or you just want to keep up with the latest and greatest from one of the top
blenders in the game, Enclave Broadleaf Toro will make for a more-than-
satisfying experience each and every time.
